SIV Format: Vehicle Registration System
SIV license plates have been the current registration plates used in France since 2009. Here are some of their main features:
- They follow the format XX-NNN-ZZ, consisting of a series of 7 alphanumeric characters: 2 letters, 3 numbers, and then 2 letters (for example, AB-126-FD).
- They are permanent and do not need to be changed if the vehicle’s owner sells it or moves to another region.
- They are non-geographical, meaning they do not indicate the department or region where the vehicle is registered. However, they may feature a regional logo and a department number located at the top right and bottom left, respectively, chosen by the owner.
- They are black on a white background both at the front and rear.
- They include the letter F (for France) and the flag of the European Union on the blue strip to the left.
- They have a size of 520 mm × 110 mm.
